Chimera 100 Preview

1 week until the Chimera 100! I'm excited and nervous but ultimately know my training for this race is done and now it is time to get my body and mind ready for race day. Here is what awaits.

To get ready for this beast I have tried to run as frequently and consistently as possible. That ended up meaning a lot of runs around the 5 mile mark. Early mornings with the dogs. Lot's of stroller time with Addie Jane. Evening runs with Rachael. In addition, I have tried to get out for longer and bigger runs in the mountains with a focus on dialing in an "all day" pace. A few of my bigger training days in preparation for Chimera were: And
My goals for this race.
1. Get to the finish line.
2. Sub 24 hours.
3. Top 10 finish.

Strategy.
The plan is to start slow. I had a tough learning experience earlier in the year when I went out too hard at Sean O'brein 50 miler and faded hard after mile 25. I need to get stronger as the day goes on if I have any chance at feeling good throughout this thing. I hope to run nice and easy, hike a lot, and focus on my nutrition for the first 40 miles. After that point the big climbs start and we'll be headed towards dark. My focus on the second half of the race will be to maintain consistent movement and a positive attitude. I'll have friends at the mile 12 Aid Station and then a good crew back at Bluejay Campground. Z-German, Harald Zundel, is going to pace me from mile 83 to the finish which should be a big help. He's completed this race before and is an all around ultra badass.

A week of rest and keeping the legs loose in front of me. Bring on the beast!
